Profile: Burgundy Grill and Wine Bar - La Jolla

I went here for the first time to meet up with two girlfriends, and we were very happy with our choice. Burgundy has great happy hour specials, a solid wine selection, a menu with both appetizers and full meals, and inexpensive flights so you can try a few new things.

It was a nice place to go with a group of girlfriends, but given that all three of us kept commenting on how romantic the setting was, the best occasion for this place is probably date night.

On the other hand, there is a huge outdoor patio that will probably become a scene when the weather is warmer, and I could see getting a big group together to enjoy the wine and sunshine.

Inside, Burgundy’s atmosphere is dripping with romance. The brick red (or perhaps spicy Merlot?) color scheme is replicated in an accent wall and in tablecloths that adorn the 15-20 small tables inside. The walls are painted a deep Saffron color, and there are black and white pictures of beaches hanging every few feet. There is a requisite fireplace in the corner, a vineyard mural on the wall, and Frank Sinatra music piping in through the stereo.

The guests that night included the three of us girls, a very cute couple, and a family of four with older children. It was slow for a Thursday night, but business will likely increase with the temperature.

A little quirky: The “International” flight contained two wines from Paso Robles and one from France - not exactly the exotic mix I was expecting.

Also, as of this post you can get discounted gift certificates to Burgundy at so you can try the wine without breaking the bank.
